Abbotsford

 

Rich in agriculture, heritage, and the arts, Abbotsford is known for its diversity. It is growing at a steady pace and has many different types of industry such as horticulture, education, aviation and fruit farming. Abbotsford is a city of 135,000 people located within the Greater Vancouver area. Just a one hour drive from downtown Vancouver, Abbotsford is in an ideal location.  Moreover, the city is well-known for having a safe environment and easy access to the area’s natural surroundings.

Community:

The urban amenities of Abbotsford, combined with its proximity to the ocean, lakes, mountains and forests of the Fraser Valley, have attracted a stable and highly-skilled population to the area. It is the regional business and shopping  centre for a number of nearby communities and close to many great tourist destinations. 

It has a world-class symphony orchestra, a hospital, an airport, and has hosted many national and regional sporting events.  There are many community resources such as a recreation centre, restaurants, theatres, parks, and a vibrant downtown. 

Moreover, Abbotsford is home to one of British Columbia’s larger post-secondary institutions—University of the Fraser Valley which has over 14,000 students and offers many excellent programs.  Annual community events such as the Abbotsford Air Show and the Berry Festival are just a few examples of the local activities provided in Abbotsford.

Climate:

Abbotsford, as part of the Greater Vancouver area, has a very mild climate compared to the rest of Canada.  Winter in Abbotsford is mild relative to the rest of Canada, with daytime temperatures averaging around 7°C in January and February.  In August, the average daytime temperature is around 24°C, but it is not uncommon to have 28-30°C weather.  Due to its proximity to the ocean, Abbotsford does not get too cold in the winter, or too hot in the summer.  The Fraser Valley receives very little snow during the winter, except in the mountains.  However, the West Coast receives a significant amount of rain in the winter months.
